JP Murtagh Racing is based on the Curragh in County Kildare and have access to an array of top class facilities across 1,500 acres of the beautifully historic Curragh plains. There is no better sight than watching your horse being exercised among a necklace of horses in the morning, and with thirty mile of grass, sand and woodchip gallops, we have every facility available to train race horses quite literally on our doorstep.

The Curragh has produced some of the finest thoroughbreds in racing, and Epsom Derby, Arc De Triomphe, Guineas Melbourne Cup and Breeders Cup winners.

Not only are the gallops of the highest quality, but they are maintained regularly 365 days a year round, and the different types of gallops available means that we can cater for every type of horse in training.

Belle De Crecy also landed the Group 2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh in 2013, while last season was a particularly fruitful campaign for us with Mutual Regard landing the prestigious Ebor Handicap at York and Purr Along’s victory in the Group 3 Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh being the highlights.

We would be delighted to welcome you to our yard at any time and have horses available for purchase throughout the year.

Please feel free to contact us at any time, Johnny Murtagh

Johnny started his racing career here on the Curragh with John Oxx and rode his first winner at Limerick in 1987. He was Champion apprentice in his second season and Irish Champion jockey on five separate occasions.

Johnny has been associated with many great horses, such as Henrythenavigator, Yeats, Rip Van Winkle, Sinndar, Mastercraftsman and Ridgewood Pearl to name a few, as well as top class trainers Aidan O’Brien, John Oxx and Micheal Stoute to name but a few. Throughout his glittering career in the saddle Johnny amassed 106 Group winners and over 3,000 winners respectively.

It was through his experience as a jockey and time spent learning with the great trainers throughout the world that he believed in his own ability to take up the reins and start training horses under his own name. When the demands of juggling his riding with training became too timeconsuming, Johnny decided that he would concentrate entirely on training racehorses and is completely concentrated of recording more big race glory, but as a trainer instead of a jockey.

Johnny has an innate feel for racing and his knowledge gained from the leading lights in this sport belies his youthful years. We have already seen a glimpse of what Johnny can bring to the training ranks and have the utmost confidence that he will scale similar heights as a trainer as he did when he was riding.
